Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of UpliftBuddy — the Android app, the web app and the website at upliftbuddy.com (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Questions: support@upliftbuddy.com.

1. Who can use UpliftBuddy

UpliftBuddy is for adults only. You need to be 18 or older to create an account or use the Service, and by using it you confirm that you are. If we reasonably believe an account belongs to someone under 18, we may need to suspend or close it.

2. Membership

UpliftBuddy is free of charge during the launch period. Until the app is published on Google Play and the Apple App Store, every verified account has free access to the features described below and no payment is required. We may end free access at any time. When we do, an active UpliftBuddy Pro membership will be required to use the app, as described in section 3, and we will give you reasonable notice in the app or by email beforehand.

Free access includes the Personal Recovery Assessment, the Ladder and Desert recovery approaches, daily check-ins, habit tracking, private journaling, progress tracking, Urge SOS and the Learn library. Iro, our AI coach, will be available in a future release (see section 7). These are self-guided tools: your recovery approach and plan are built from your own answers using fixed rules, and they are not medical treatment, professional therapy or a guaranteed outcome. We may change, add or discontinue features as the Service evolves, and we will tell you about material changes.

3. Billing, renewal and cancellation

No payment is currently required. While UpliftBuddy is free of charge, we take no payment, so there is nothing to renew, cancel or refund. The remainder of this section describes how paid membership will operate once free access ends, and it applies now to anyone who has already paid for a membership.

  • Price. UpliftBuddy Pro is a monthly subscription. The current price and billing period are always shown before you confirm. Prices may change over time, and a change doesn’t affect a period you’ve already paid for. The subscription renews each month until you cancel.
  • Who processes payment. Payments, on the website and in the Android app, are processed by Dodo Payments, our authorised reseller and merchant of record, on its secure hosted checkout page and under its own terms (in the Android app the checkout opens in your browser). We never see or store your card or bank details.
  • Auto-renewal. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically each month and your payment method is charged for the next month.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel your membership at any time, and it only takes a minute. Cancelling stops the next renewal, so you won’t be charged for the following month. You keep access until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for (that period isn’t refunded). To cancel, open the app (Android or web), go to Profile → Membership details and choose Cancel membership.
  • Refunds. Because Pro unlocks its features as soon as you pay, all sales are final and we don’t offer refunds, including for unused time, cancelling, deleting your account or not using the app. We want you to feel confident before you subscribe, so please take your time. If we make a billing mistake (for example a duplicate charge), we’ll put it right, and nothing here limits consumer rights that can’t be waived by law. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
  • Deleting your account. If you delete your account, your membership is removed with it. Any time left in the billing period you’ve paid for is lost and isn’t refunded, and we cancel your renewal so you won’t be charged again. If you only want to stop paying, you can cancel your membership instead and keep access until the billing period ends.
  • Price changes. We may change pricing. A change never applies retroactively and takes effect only from your next renewal, with notice beforehand.

4. Your account

  • Keep your login details secure; you are responsible for activity under your account.
  • Give accurate information, including your age.
  • Tell us promptly at support@upliftbuddy.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • Accounts with no activity for 120 days are deleted automatically (active subscribers excepted); we email you 7 days before.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything unlawful or harmful, or to harass anyone;
  • submit content that is sexually explicit, hateful, violent, threatening, illegal, or that infringes others’ rights, or that contains other people’s personal information;
  • try to disrupt, overload, probe, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users’ data;
  • use bots or scripts, or try to get around limits on Iro or other features;
  • try to make Iro produce sexual, harmful or illegal content;
  • resell, sublicense or misrepresent the Service.

We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

6. Your content

Your assessment answers, check-ins, journal entries and other content remain yours. You allow UpliftBuddy to store and process that information to provide the features you choose, including generating your Personal Recovery Assessment and displaying your progress. The assessment is based on self-reported information and is not a diagnosis or a validated measure of addiction severity.

Journal entries are private unless you deliberately choose to share one. Shared entries appear to other members under an anonymous alias; avoid posting information that identifies you or someone else. We may remove shared entries that break these Terms, and entries may be hidden after reports from other members. We do not sell your personal recovery entries for advertising.

7. Iro, the AI coach

Iro is not yet available. It will be introduced in a future release. At present, no content that you enter in UpliftBuddy is sent to an AI service. This section describes how Iro will operate once it is released.

Once released, Iro will be an AI coach available to active members, with a planned limit of up to 30 messages a day (we may change this limit). Iro’s replies are generated automatically, so they can sometimes be wrong, incomplete or not quite right for your situation, and they’re not medical, psychological or professional advice. Iro isn’t a crisis service and can’t help in an emergency, so please don’t rely on it for decisions about your health or safety.

Your chat with Iro is not stored on our servers, and Iro does not see your check-ins, journal or assessment. Messages are processed by an AI service provider to produce replies — see our Privacy Policy for details. We may limit or suspend access for misuse.

8. Ending your use

You may delete your account at any time (see how to delete your account). When you do, any membership you have is removed with the account, with no refund for the time left, and we cancel your renewal so you are not billed again. We may suspend or end accounts that break these Terms, belong to anyone under 18, or put the Service or other users at risk; where reasonable we will tell you. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as limitations of liability) continue to apply.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise any particular result — progress depends on many personal factors.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, UpliftBuddy and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (or USD 10 if you paid nothing). Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law or affects your statutory consumer rights.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. For material changes we will notify you (for example, by email or in the app) before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
